Religious ideals

The Little Sisters say even submitting the self- certification form might lead them to complicit in supplying contraceptives, violating their rights under the charter and a federal spiritual-freedom law.

The administration says its policies don’t impose a substantial burden at the nuns’ non secular beliefs. The policies make an exception for self-funded church fitness plans — inclusive of the Little Sisters plan — saying their coverage directors don’t need to provide the insurance.

The high court docket order bars the administration from requiring the form if the Little Sisters “inform the Secretary of fitness and Human services in writing that they may be non-income companies that preserve themselves out as religious and have non secular objections to presenting insurance for contraceptive offerings.”
